Not many things can put me in a good mood...predictably. Chocolate, a hot bath, and my husband stand a good chance. So does sweet tea, time with my dog, and some creative collaging.
Recently, however, when dealing with a client crisis and overall "funk," I was reminded of the power of music.
I didn't go looking for Regina Spektor, but I'm glad she found me. Amid the noise and chaos at a local coffee shop, my friend David insisted I watch her video. Since then, I've devoured everything: her songs, her music, her lyrics, her musings.
I am struck by her unique vocals and poignant messages.
She is simple, silly, complex, and wildly talented. And mostly she reminds me to be myself and embrace my life.
If you've never experienced "art" in music, take a look and give a listen.
Excerpt from On the Radio:
This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath
No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get hard
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again
One Thing I Know For Sure: You have a song to sing. Don't die with your music inside you.
